Daoist Sitting Meditation

The most traditional of all meditation practice is that of Quiet Sitting. This is the first state of all meditation schools, and there are many similarities between Daoist sitting and Buddhist or Hindu sitting routines. To assist with quiet sitting, Daoist place a large focus on hearing signals from the body, and entering stillness in the world, instead of escaping into the mind. Practice is done with the eyes slightly open, and involve a unique breathing technique of filling the dantian.
 
But quiet sitting is just the first stage of Daoist meditation. There are many other variations which are used to heighten the senses and improve the spirit in terms of patience, acceptance, and awareness. 
 
Meditation techniques also include Concentration Meditation. Here, practitioners learn to increase their concentration both visually and audibly. Heightening one's connection to their senses helps to peel back the mirages and framework we have built around ourselves as a culture, and shows us a clearer path to walking in harmony with the Dao.
 
Another popularly discussed technique can be named include Esoteric Excursions, or Spirit Walking. Here, the practitioner escapes into the mind, and follows the ideas and images which are created or discovered. Many times people return from these experiences with stories of amazing sites or even discussions and new knowledge from beings they've interacted with. It is difficult to tell what is real and what is imaginary in this practice, but upon returning from a session, there are always things to contemplate over, and new fresh considerations on the table.
 
This practice is excellent for everyone, and can be joined together with Zhanzhuang practice, or any of our other skillsets (martial or otherwise).
